Changing Your "A" Record - A General Walkthrough

Now that you've got all your content ready, your website address purchased, and your email set up, it's time to launch your new site. You are now ready for the world to see your website!

There are only a few steps that you need to do to make your website live. Below are the general instructions for making your website live.

First Things First:

The first step is to find your new site's "IP Address". It's located in your Greenhouse Dashboard under Settings > Search Engine Settings. You'll see it on the right side under "Your I.P. Address". Copy this number and save it for the next steps.

Changing Your "A" Record

If you have registered at any other company, here are the general steps you should follow. Unfortunately most companies' control panels are a bit cryptic, so you might want to grab a techie friend to help you (or of course, feel free to call us).

1. Log into the service where you purchased your website address.

2. Get to the place where you can manage your domain settings or DNS records.

3. Change your "A Record" to your site's IP address (the one that you wrote down from the beginning of this help article)

That's it! Your site should be live within a couple hours, however it can take up to 24 hours for everything to start showing up properly. Go celebrate!

*Note: Your "A Record" is not the same as your "NS (Name Server) records". If you only have the option of changing your NS records, you'll probably have to call your domain company and tell them to change your A record over the phone.

Also, make sure you DO NOT change any MX records. These are the rules applied for your email. If they get messed with, you might be in a little trouble with your mail.

If you get lost at any point please give us a call and we'll help you sort things out.
